To Our Chamber Members,
Happy June! I hope that you have found the first half of 2010 to be productive and prosperous. With the year settling in and economic tensions rising, I wanted to take a moment to talk about work place environment and health.
I recently attended a FISH! networking conference in Anderson that sparked a sort of "makeover" for us in the Chamber office. The FISH! philosophy is based on 4 simple principles that most of us, if we were to admit it, overlook everyday. These principles are:
- Be there. Focus and give your undivided attention to the person or people around you. Don't worry about what you are doing, haven't done or need to do in the future, focus on what is happening in the present moment.
- Make someone's day. It's not as hard as you might think and can be as simple as a smile or "hello."
- Play! Have fun at work. The catch and release of energy throughout the day will keep you motivated.
- Choose your attitude. Remember attitude is contagious, both positive and negative. You may not have control over what happens day to day, but you have the ability to react and CHOOSE your attitude.
In the spirit of releasing tension and advocating a healthy work environment, we have also started a Biggest Loser weight loss competition! Interim Executive Director, Missy Modesitt, and I will be in friendly competition for the next six weeks. Be sure to let us know if you are interested in what we are doing to create a healthy environment at the Chamber!
We look forward to updating you as we grow and learn in the coming months!

May Ribbon Cuttings Habitat for Humanity and Cyber Deli
In May we held 2 ribbon cuttings for new businesses! The Cyber Deli opened earlier this spring downtown across from the Chamber office. They are a full service deli and sandwich shop with great food! The Habitat for Humanity ReStore opened May 1st down the street from us on 3008 E Broad. They sell and accept tax-deductible donations on new and used building materials. This is a wonderful addition to the Raintree Habitat for Humanity organization!
